Time to swap my CLS 350 Shooting Brake for a CLS 63 Shooting Brake. Advice?

I'm in the marketplace looking for a CLS 35 SB, can you drop me some information, I don't think my post count is enough to allow for private messages

Damn you! That was in my budget and close by, it didn't have all the options I wanted but wish I'd been in a position to consider it. It was a good price.
What options were you looking for out of interest?

Basically everything! I almost have everything on mine now, except keyless go. I want keyless go and would sacrifice something else for it if I needed to.
To be honest, I can’t remember what the spec of your one was so it may have had al I wanted

Hi all,

I've decided to sell my TVR as well as my current CLS 350 and trade in/up to a CLS 63 AMG. I've found the CLS Shooting Brake package a perfect fit for me and my family, but I need to have an AMG in my life at some point and now is the time. Wondered if there was any advice you could give me about what I should be looking for?

I'd really like to get a facelift model, whereas currently I have a pre facelift CLS, so getting the upgraded interior, headlights etc is appealing. Are all the facelift models AMG S spec? I haven't seen any that aren't but it might just be because there are few for sale anyway. If not, is the S worth waiting for? I believe the S is 4matic and more powerful, which is a good thing, is that right?

I know the CLS well but anything I should be looking out for specifically on the AMG?

The main problem is going to be budget, a few months ago when I looked there were a number of facelift AMG S's for just north of mid 20s, now it seems that's not the case. Depending on how much I sell my TVR for and what I realistically get for my current CLS, my max budget will likely be £30k or possibly 1-2k less. Of the 3 on Autotrader right now, 2 or dealer sales and too new to be cheap enough, and other seems overpriced IMO.

Bit of a ramble but any thoughts or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks
I like your thinking. Wish I thought of this combo when I sold my TVR. Instead i opted to replace with the C63 coupe and running an estate alongside it. Now I find myself looking at E63 estates and the shooting brake Amg :wallbash:

I'm with you. If this Covid thing continues I'm going to have to get something silly. Some would say the A35 is it but as they say their ain't a replacement for displacement

If I had a choice I would have the CLS 63 and still have a second 2 seater of some sort, for me it just makes sense to stick with the CLS if I just have one car, but hopefully I’ll get another to my or 2 in the future

How much better is the gearbox shift speed in the facelift AMG S after they updated the box, vs the pre facelift?

I could be wrong, but I think the CLS63s still has the MCT7 even in the facelift form. The 9 speed one is very different, the extra ratios transform the low speed pick up.

The MCT7 is still a proven transmission and its well mated to the bi-turbo engine.

I see there is another SB up on Autotrader:

You’re right it’s the same box but I’ve read a couple places that they did something to it to improve shift times. If anyone has experience, what’s the “kick down” like? If I’m cruising at 40 and want to overtake for example and I put my foot down, how quick is it to react? I find that’s the biggest problem with any modern automatic gearboxes these days, even dual clutch ones sometimes

I’ve seen that car, it’s been up for a while but still above budget unfortunately.

It's instant in Sport+. A fraction of a second in Comfort.
Using kickdown at 40mph, you'll be above the NSL within a couple of seconds.

Agreed. And if that’s not quick enough then hold the downshift to preselect the optimal gear ratio. Peeeowwwwm.

I can’t remember driving a car when I thought that lockdown was too slow, Event my first automatic - 1999 Vauxhall Omega 2.5 CD -kicked down and picked up it’s skirt quickly.

Can’t remember who told me I should get an RS6 instead but I can’t get it out my head now!

Anyone driven both an RS6 and a rwd 63 amg and can shed some light on the differences?

So subjective. You really need to try both. I saw a stunning RS6 the other day which made me think “oooh” - mostly because of the stunning bright blue colour - but it soon passed. They get a lot more attention than an E63 so that it is a good thing for some people, and a bad thing for others.

I’m going to try an RS6 this week hopefully.

Ideally I just want someone to say that having 4wd doesn’t actually matter and getting the power down is actually ok in the AMG
