Just a little tip that may help some of you out there with dodgy remote keys.
I was not sure if the infra red side of the key was working and a friend of mine in the TV trade suggested just pointing it at a digital camera and you will see a small glow from the lens of the key if its transmitting properly in the cameras view finder.
I tried it and it works perfectly !
A simple but possibly handy tip.

Note:

It won't show in the viewfinder (unless it's electronic) but will show on an LCD screen of a digital camera.

Most DSLR's have an infrared filter fitted over the sensor so will filter this light out and not show at all, it's not an infallable way of testing your key.

Just point it at the lense of your camera phone - I've yet to see a phone with IR filtering.

Try looking at hot coals via your camera/phone, looks quite cool.
