My W203 has the tiptronic function. When I bought it in 2004 I noticed it seems hesitant to change into gear when engaging it left or when moving down gears. However it moves easily when shifting right (up gears).
The dealer looked at this right at the start and said it was because it mustn't have been used much by the last owner and it would "loosen up". However the problem still exists 16 months later.

Does anyone else experience this problem ?

I think you will find the dealer was spinning a yarn!!!

The Tiptronic operates a switch, the signal is processed by the ECU before changing gear, and only if engine rpm and speed are within limits to prevent damage. The only mechanical part would be the actual gearlever, does you knob feel stiff?
