To good to be true??

They are 15inch only - dont think they look that good on a C Class (Tiny ?) ...

I agree sorry had not notice they were only 15" need 16 as a minimum as that what is on mine at the moment.
Cheers

15" is too small IMO.

I think you should stay original and get a nice set of 16" Sport Alloys.

Buy Me

Your car will look great - just like my old C200 Sport

My 98 C180 Elegance only has I think 15 inch standard alloys, would 16 or 17 inch fit ok on mine with out messing about with suspension or rubbing arches etc, and what about offset etc. How about some one in the know compiling a rule of thumb type guide on what size to fit to what with offset etc with min and max wheel and tyre sizes.

An overall guide would be good, but would take some time to compile for all the different MB models over the years. However a lot of the information is here if you search for it.

Your w202 for example will be fine with the correct size 16", 17" or 18" alloys.

I know not the offset, but the 16" Sport alloys I have for sale would obviously fit as they are from a W202.

As I have them I can also tell you the following size of the original staggered (wider at rear then the front) AMG fitment:

7.5J 225/45/17 Front

8.5J 245/40/17 Rear

Thanks fo the feedback, I am totally confused, my tyres say 195 65 R15, I presume that 15 means 15 inch but my rim measures 16 inch across, any explanations would be appreciated. Looking at some of the W202 on this site with AMG wheels that fill the arches beautifully, my rear wheels have quite a gap between the tyre and the arch, I dont suppose the suspension is adjustable is it ?

I want AMG wheels !

If your tyre says 195/65/R15 then you have a 15" diameter wheel. If you had a 16" rim, to keep the same rolling radius you would have a smaller sidewall and probably a slightly wider wheel. The tyre size would be something like 205/55/R16.

If you have 15, 16, 17 or 18" wheels the diameter of the wheels will always have to be the same other wise the gearing will be out. As you go up in rim sizes you have to have lower profile tyres in order to keep the same rolling diameter.

It is the suspension set-up that alters the gap between the tyre and the wheel arch. The gap can only be decreased by changing the suspension to sport spec or getting lowering springs. The Sport and Esprit are lower than the Classic and Elegance it is not as easy as changing the springs and shock absorbers, the wishbones and arms are different too.

Lower suspension has to be stiffer and has less suspension travel else the car will bottom out. Also lower profile tyres have less abilty to absorb bumps than larger profile tyres. So larger rims and tyres will give a harsher ride.

Thanks very much to all who took the time to explain, by George I think that I have now got it. 17 inch seem the best bet for me so it will still leave me more rubber around the rim than 18 inch as I do like the comfortable soft ride of my Elegance. A company near me sell Mercedes 17 inch 'A' line replicas complete with 225/45/17 tyres for £738 all in. Do these sound like they will fit my W202 with out problems, I presume that the offset will be correct without affecting handling, I would still prefer genuine AMG rims but they are so expensive or already trashed if available second hand.

Andy

I have been thinking on this one where you say you want 225's on.Aren't these going to be a little too wide for a 1.8 engine too cope with?I ask cus Ive done this on cars before,Put big wheels and tyres on, only to find that the extra tyre surface contact to the road increases the friction and therefore slows the car down.

Hi Pluggers,
Never thought about that ! I was only repeating what was on the website about tyres available with the rims, good point though, more thought required.
What a mine field !

I changed from 195/65/R15's to 225/55/R16's I have found that my speedo now reads true (was 4mph out) Road handling feels so secure, No marked increase or decrease in performance or fuel consumption. My only niggle is that I am going to have to remove my bumper yet again and space it out as one wheel does catch it when hitting dips at anything over 40Mph. (poor fitting bumper, suspect it has had a knock sometime in life)

Ian,

Like you I'm "currently" on 195/65/R15's and I'm reading 4mph over (according to the Road Angel).

So were the 124s designed to run on 16s?

k

I read over about 3 mph on my 16's and 17's.

I think you are supposed to read over slightly on your speedo.
