Car
2003 R230 SL350 Tellurium silver
I've just bought a 2000 W plate SL320 which is my only car although not a daily driver. I think I may have jumped in too soon as it was only the second one I'd actually looked at after being messed around by a couple of sellers. The car has covered 112 000 miles and I'm now the 5th owner, I shall dread posting photos as those with far more knowledge than me will likely have seen the car advertised and say I should have steered well clear of it.

I looked at it on Wednesday evening when the weather was bright and sunny but the car was parked under some trees. It was only in normal daylight yesterday I noticed three areas of poor paint work presumably covering up some equally poor repairs. Strangely one of these is the flat part of the boot lid in the middle near the base of the screen.

Known faults when I bought it were that it needs a new soft top, unfortunately my budget, and I know you shouldn't have a budget just deep pockets owning an SL, means I shall probably try and fit the replacement myself.

The other thing is the drivers auto dim door mirror has turned brown and I wasn't quite expecting £287.40 + VAT for a replacement, I thought it would be more £50 - £100.

It could be a very steep and expensive learning curve! :D

There's copies of the workshop video that covers this available online. IMO it's a job best left to the professionals though, knackering the hood mechanism because it's not quite fitted right doesn't bear thinking about.

The photochromatic mirror glass has always been expensive, even on my 2003 E320 CDI!

Lovely car.

In terms of your mirror, just get a stick on one from eBay, they're fine. I put one on my 211 and it was perfect £12.99 I think.

Leave the roof to the experts !

Re the mirror , try Carl at R129.co.uk

I got a replacement mirror for my SL ( IIRC it actually came from a W140 ) for something like £40 , stripped out the innards and fitted them to my own shell to save painting - all good .

He also has used hoods on his website for reasonable money from time to time .
