I have tried to search these forums and failed miserably!

I want to change the oil using a vacuum probe down the engine dipstick on my 320CDI estate (2005) however I now realise that MB has removed the dipstick and oil checks are via the dash.

The question that I have is that have MB left the actual tube?

If they have what's the easiest way of accessing it? (I presume I have to remove some covers). Picture would be nice if anyone has them.

Again I have tried to search for this and drawn a zero

Remove the engine covers and the dipstick tube is under there.

make sure the oil is really hot.

If a straight six engine the red cap on the RHS of pic is your destination.

(The highlighted areas are those that were prone to a bit of diesel seepage, the reason I took it in the first place)

I think if I owned an engine like that the first thing I'd do would be to cut a hole in the engine cover so I could get to the dipstick :)

Hi Parrot

I totall agree, i have a personal note in my head that i will not buy another Merc if it doesnt have a dipstick or drain plug in the sump.

They ALL have a drain bung and a guide tube for the dipstick if no dipstick.

(SL55 has two drain bungs)

Thanks 55
