Please see attached pdf document from WIS that explains why the drain plug in the torque convertors were removed.

The way to find the torque converter drain plug is to remove the under shields from your car (if fitted) place a 27mm socket on the crankshaft pulley. Turn the engine by hand using the 27 mm socket, CLOCKWISE. With the other hand feel the torque converter rotate till the drain plug comes to the bottom. It is on the back (gearbox) side of the housing. Be careful if the engine is hot. If you have trouble turning the engine take out the spark plugs first. Should your car have an internal hex instead of a bolt, use a short piece of 17mm bar and a socker to rotate the engine.
