Hi,

I am a newbie here...just bought my 1st Mercedes (2001 ML430)...the Towball is missing & I am trying to get a replacement...I think it was originally factory fitted but attach a screenshot of the fitting if anyone can help.

Thanks in advance

Hi,

The towbar is the type where the towball clips into place via a pin fitting & isnt attached to a hitch plate...I am pretty sure its original manufacturers fit & not aftermarket.....similar to below...sticker mentions "Oris".....not sure if they are the manufacturers..

Try your local MB spares Dept then.

Are you sure it is missing and isn't bolted on inside the panel on the right hand side of the boot ?

That's where ours was

ORIS supplied the factory on pre-facelift cars. Try eBay, your local MB main dealer parts counter (ask for a discount) and contact ORIS themselves.

It's highly likely that ORIS only make one type of detachable so even if you find one listed on eBay for a different model, it may be still worth a punt if it's cheap enough. If you do then I'd suggest going for one from another full fat SUV in case the hitch weight ratings differ - other bg SUVs will be higher. I think yours will be rated for 135kg.

The one in your attachment is a Westfalia one, however they do not list a towbar for the ML so I don't think that helps much.

I have a spare detachable tow bar with ball. Made by Oris for M-B. Unused.

M-B part number 124 584 18 21

Oris part number 107 1270 255

No idea if it will mate with what's on your car, but if you find that it will, let me know.

Hi Steve, am prepared to give it a go...pm please & we can discuss price etc.

Thanks

Paul

If you open up the right hand compartment in the boot, there will be a cut out in black foam for the detachable towbar head. (behind the CD changer if you have a swing out CDC in there)

Thus, if you get a Oris one (like the original) it will stow away nicely in there when not in use

pps, the towbar ball thing is different if your car has the spare-wheel on the back or the AMG bumper compared with if it doesnt have either
