I've maintained the Tracker subscription on my car since I bought it a year ago.

Today I renewed.

Two choices:

£150.00/annum
£250.00 for the length of time I keep the car (usually 3 to 4 years).

Hmmm, let me think about that

I took the 2nd option when i first got my car, tracker did c*ck up and only renewed for a year whilst taking payment for option 2... clever... but they resolved that after a phone call.

I keep forgetting my 211 is fitted with Tracker. I'll be interested to get a quote. Does it reduce insurance significantly, if at all?

there is a thrid option - let the sub expire and forget about it.

Does make any difference to insurance (unless the insurer insists). Also means that your car may be returned to you in an unhappy state. Batter to let it go and move on

Nope - for me at least. worth an ask though.

There are a few different tracker companies offering different renewal fees. The original 'Tracker' product isnt the cheapest or the best in terms of features.

For instance the Scorpion Track system lets you track the car yourself via the internet;)

If you believe the blurb, Tracker uses VHF, impervious to jammers, and is the only one that the Police vehicles are equipped to trace - TV programmes I've seen would seem to support this.

Assuming that's true, I think it's worth a premium.

Sadly thats not true. VHF is not impervious to jammers.

The police can and will Track other makes. I know as we had a customer who had a Scorpion Track fitted and the police found the car quickly and easily. turned out to be a dodgy car parking firm in Luton using cars whilst customers were on holiday!

Remember also that Tracker branded products are tied to a vehicle and cannot be moved. Cobra, Scorpion Track etc all can be moved. Not all Tracker products are triggered by unauthorised movement. Some require you to spot the vehicle has gone and alert the Police. With Scorpion Track you ring fence the vehicle. As soon as it moves out of the area, you get a text and Scorpion Track themselves call you to ask about the car. Also if the car moves without ignition activated it triggers.

We fit all makes including the original Tracker but I have to say that Tracker themselves are behind significantly when it comes to fleet services, end user interface etc. I will investigate the VHF issue though.

Oddly it can increase premiums. Do a google, quite a few people suffer this.

Thanks Alfie,

I queried my level of cover yesterday and was told that if the vehicle was moved without the key being involved it would trigger - this includes being picked up and trailered away.

I couldn't insure my SL without it and when I bought my R350 some insurance companies wouldn't insure it without one.
