Hi guys, what's your opinion on "Tracker" get your car back thingy?
I have the "Monitor" option on my W204 at the moment, it was already on the car when purchased from dealer. As I'm swapping cars hopefully 1st week of December, I had considered not having Tracker fitted this time but, received a letter yesterday offering me a new Tracker fitted to my next vehicle for £99 inc vat and rolling over any annual subscription from present car.
So my question is this, have you got one and how much of a benefit is it, ie peice of mind, lower insurance premium etc, is there any point at all, or is there something better?

Thanks in advance, Andy

For a classic/rare car or one with sentimental value I think Tracker is worthwhile. For all other cars the benefits seem to be less obvious to me.

I have trackers on all our cars and you will see from some of my other posts they do have other uses as well. Like when you cant find your car in the airport long stay car park tracker will tell you where it is :o

As regards the main use then yes I think they are worthwhile. Most thieves that steal cars to order (as opposed to joyriders) normally dump the car in a location for 24 hours before going back to it to see if it is still there. There are more than one type of tracker and no doubt you've seen the ones on police programs where they get a signal in the traffic car and then try and home in on it, well I agree not really sure of the benefits of those but I guess it does give the police 24 hours to locate it. If you get the better ones with GPS there's no need for that they can tell you exactly where the car is at any given time. (also useful if someonelse is driving it;))

I would take the opportunity to ask South Yorkshire Police what their views are when we go on the visit.

Just my 2p worth.

I would get one if your car was worth over say £10K, as these sort of cars are worth the thieves making an effort to get hold of for whatever reasons (to order, spares, ringing etc etc.)
for me £99 is a no brainer!

doesn't a tracker cost a lot more than £99?

tracker subscription is £142 per year or £342 for lifetime + the cost of the unit itself, Aoraki had a special install deal as he was already a tracker customer.

Depends on type, offers, subsidies, how long you have been with them etc.. not too disimilar to mobile phone contracts and new handsets.

£99 is just the annual subscription so his car probably had one fitted already.

I have one fitted to all my cars and I use SmartTrack.

From the OP's original post..

"I had considered not having Tracker fitted this time but, received a letter yesterday offering me a new Tracker fitted to my next vehicle for £99 inc vat and rolling over any annual subscription from present car"

Ok guys, thanks for the response. Good call flanaia1, hadn't thought of that, will ask the boys in blue when we're there!
The offer available to me is only £99 all in, so it does seem daft not to at that price, thanks again everyone.

Edit; this offer is on the "Tracker Monitor"(£349rrp) unit, I'll give them a call and see how much for the "Horizon" gps unit (£438rrp) both are annual subscription of £132 or £342 duration of ownership.

I have Horizon on the 55 and had the monitor on the 500, I suppose its piece of mind.. I too had the 99 quid offer when i reneed on the 500 but the 55 came with it fitted so just had to pay the 132 to liven it up....
I also "had" to get one fitted for my insurance.....

Just my experience, Trackers are not really that helpful in real life because anyone who is going to try and steal a car of high value will know exactly how to make the car disappear from being tracked. I am not going to post the method used as it may break forum rules, but it can be done very easily. I worked for a company that used to track cars once they were reported missing/stolen and the signal would mysteriously disappear on high end cars very very quickly.

I would definatley have a tracker, after I was burgled and they tried to find the key to my ML320CDI. They failed to find the keys and they couldn't steel it.

Had they found the keys, there would have been some hope of getting the car back.

My Insurance company will not insure me if there is no Tracker. So its a must.

My ins company insisted on a tracker or similar
