Hi all,

Im planning on driving down to Germany to visit the MB Museum and also visit AMG while im there too.

I had a thought on how it would be great to turn this into a MB Club trip if any members would be interested in this?

I haven't planned any dates yet as its still an idea so I would just like everyones opinion if this is something you would be interested in. Most likely it would be just a long weekend trip, leave on a Friday and return on Sunday night/ early Monday morning.

I'll be looking into hotels around the Museum area and find out rates/accomodation availability and facilities, and most likely P&O/Stenna ferry crossing as its cheaper than Eurostar.

Please let me know what your thoughts are and if there is a good positive feedback from most then i'll take it further and look more into it.

Cheers,
Nik

Amg is brilliant and worth doing. My bro and I did this trip two years ago - went to the factory, then did the AMG tour. Make sure you have dinner at the owners restaurant - near the horse stables.

I emailed AMG to book the tour - they don't normally offer them unless you ask. Also you'll have to pay for it unless you've got an AMG (or can give them the chassis number for one.....).

It's great for a Mercedes fan - and watch out for the test cars doing the rounds near the factories....

Depending on dates I'd be up for this, always wanted to do it when we travel to the ring but the others in my normal party are all BMW or Maserati men so have no interest, so I always miss out. My overseas work commitments are quite heavy but if we are talking a long weekend I'm sure I can work it in unless i'm in Asia or the US. Please keep me posted.

regards
Ian

Was in Stuttgart at the MB Museum a couple of weeks ago...it is a "whole day" job. We arrived at 9:15, didn't get out until after 4pm, and we weren't hanging around either.

You may want to look at allowing a bit more time; I think you will struggle to get round both that and the AMG museum in a single day without seriously rushing. Even via the tunnel, Stuttgart is a good day's drive in each direction (~500miles from Calais). Don't forget the tiredness factor too.

That is good plan..I dont exactly want to be driving sitting alone in my car singing to myself..Sharing cars and driving will influence me to come along..Keep me posted..

I can see a Jolly boys outing coming on :D

P.S. Sharing cars and costs a great idea

The MB Museum is great and as DolphiN Tech says, you really need a full day to do it justice. I'd suspect that weekends are busier than weekdays as well, so it may take a little longer to get to see everything. Calais to Stuttgart is around 7.5 hours driving time, or say 9 - 9.5 with stops. Do-able in a day but it's a l-o-n-g b-o-r-i-n-g drag on the Autoroutes / Autobahn's. If you're sharing driving then things would be less tiring, but you need to factor in UK driving as well for those who live "up north". If you're tight for time and want to do it over a weekend, my suggestion would be:

Thurs night: Meet up / sleep at the Premier Inn Dover West (they'd probably let you leave cars in the carpark over the weekend if you asked nicely)
Fri: Early ferry then spend the day driving to Stuttgart
Sat: Museum Day / Stuttgart in the evening
Sun: Night stop somewhere around Epernay or Reims
Mon: Late-morning ferry to Blighty & disperse for home

Should give you enough time to actually enjoy the trip as well as seeing the museum ;)

wow, thats a fantastic response from everyone! im glad people are up for this.

Phil, thanks for the ideas.. your right about taking into consideration everyone else who lives up north and has to drive the extra miles to make it to dover. I hadn't thought of that.

I know there is a PCS gathering happening in May and Jays gathering July so I thought this would be perfect for June. Im aiming to leave on Thursday 4th of June and returning on Sunday 7th of June.

My ideas are as follows;

1) Wednesday evening/night meet at Premier Inn Dover West.

2) Thursday, catch the 10:00am P&O ferry and arrive in Calais at 12:30pm - £30 crossing, drive through Luxembourg and Belgium to avoid the french tolls, arrive in Stuttgart for evening (ish). Relax and chill out in the hotel.

3) Friday, a good full relaxed day at the museum (avoiding the weekend crowd), head into town in the night.

4) Saturday, spend the day at the AMG factory and then whoever wishes to visit or give their cars a good run on the Nurburgring.

5) Sunday, Leave Stuttgart early'ish in the morning and catch the 17:30 ferry at Calais and arrive in Dover at 20:00 and drive home.

Stuttgart to Affalterbach is 3.5 hours drive

Affalterbach to Nurburgring is almost a 4 hour drive

Nurburgring to Stuttgart is a 3.5 hours drive

Would Nurburgring be too much to squeeze in?

Good itinerary but a long way from stuttgart to the ring! The ring is something you want to do fresh after a good nights sleep, there were 3 fatalities when I was there last August for a weekend..

Your timing is good though dates are perfect for me, takes me about 4 hours to Dover, anyone wants a lift from Northern climes they more than welcome to ride with me.

This is looking good:D
