Really getting on top of my car now and every day I tick off on another job and it just gets better and better :thumb:

Car is a 89 w124 230e with the 722 Transmission ;)

However there's question over the transmission? It can be a bit bumpy changing gears and it flares up 3-4 but only when cold :dk:

Deep down I feel that if it was serious internal issues the flare ups would happen all the time but as long as I warm the car up to temp before driving off it never does it,only when cold

Also the old trans fluid though a little dirty smelled OK and there was no debris whatsoever in it and seemed quite clean when drained out :thumb:

Here is my dilemma, from what I understand it could be a vacumm leak, pipe, modulator or "K" springs?

Only problem is Ive had experience with Auto Transmission specialists before (or so called specialists) and the minute you take a car in they start seeing pound signs and tell you that you need a rebuild or rebuilt transmission when you don't!

Does anybody know of any trustworthy Trans or Benz specialists who wont rip me off?

Preferable around my area but could travel a little further if needed?

Wiltshire,Gloucester,Reading,Bristol

Or I travel up north quite a bit to see my folks so

Wirral,Chester,Cheshire,Shropshire,Wales etc?

Thanks Guys :D

Hi

I just had my 300TE box re-built by Andy at Wright Tech - 0208 308 9175. They are based in Sidcup, SE London. He is a 124 specialist and knows these boxes very well so worth a visit.

Flaring between gears on an auto is us usually a sign of the clutch bands failing. They never get better and are designed to fail completely when you are in rush hour traffic, on a major arterial junction, holding up the Milwall Fan Club Coach & Supporters from getting to their favourite match.

If you go down the route of a second hand box, you know the risks? They can be worse than where you are now.

Give Andy a call. and ask if he will give a fixed top price? This is what I did and I was very happy with the work and the price. That was, box out, rebuild and refit.

The Regulating Pressure Control Valve Spring has been a problem with these in the past, they snap about 3/4 way along ,then bind into the remains causing a slow change etc, but are different after 1999.
The Overlap control sleeves wear & can have scoring on this can cause judder & slow gear changing, some here instantly say TC, but this is worth checking 1st. I would buy a Sonnax overlap valve sleeve kit, the new kit has 'O' rings on that stop the ATfluid going around the sleeve & causing a pressure drop hence the slow change, judder & slip, while its out & a new conductor plate, pilot bush etc, & remember ,cleaner than a plastic surgeons table,
good luck.
