hi,
previously posted power loss thread - but no takers.

read through lots of threads covering same problems, i have checked the plugs so far managed to get 7 out (all completely worn) so i have changed them, the other 5 are very hard to remove, when my cut knuckles heal i'll give them another go!
took the maf out, very clean and free from dust etc. i read a post saying try running the car with it disconnected to see if it is faulty. after i disconnected it the engine completely cut out, reconnected it and engine started. what does this suggest is wrong?
any advise would be appriciated

Hi

What make and model is the vehicle.

Have you had it checked for fault codes

7 plus 5 = 12 so hes prob got a 6 cyl the fact it gots 2 plugs per cylinder means it a 112 v6, of whatever displacement:D

Defo agree with the fault codes bit, a decent code reader is not that dear depending on the year of the car, u581 look on e bay.

You could spend a small fortune on bits without getting anywhere so either getting the codes read or buying a reader is a logical first step.

Didnt think about doing the sums as its been a long day and not thinking to straight.

First palce would be to get the codes read and then go from there before starting to replace parts

sorry it's a clk 320 2001

thanks for info, my car is a clk 320 made in 2001, i've had a look on ebay and found the code reader so i'll get organised and buy one.

They are quite good do a search on here theres a few bits and bobs about them, even if theres no codes you can read live values to see whats not doing what its meant to be.
You may also nee an adaptor cable £10 e bay, my 2001 210 has the socket above the right knee drivers side but seems y2k models dont have it, in which case you have to use the 38 pin socket under the bonnet.
