Tyre Issues 2008 CLS63

Over the last few weeks I have had a gentle thump thump thump noise at speeds between 25/35mph, revs at about 1200 to 1500. Was concerned it was transmission (just sounded like it comes from front end), or wheel bearings. Had the car thoroughly checked over and it turns out the offside front tyre was miss shaped (high spots) at various point on the very inside of the surface tread, so it was difficult to see without removing the wheel. The tyre walls were fine. The tracking alignment and everything else also completely fine.

I am running Pirelli P Zero, I would be interested to know if anyone else has experienced this type of problem?

I had similar and it turned out to be a tyre too (Eagle F1).

My PZero's are fine so far.

If it's not economic to replace the tyre you could try Roadforce balancing that claims to be able to balance out both wheel and tyre defects.

Not cheap at around £18 per corner, but may be worth a go:
Birmingham Motor Tyres

I'd be worried that the tyre carcass may have failed at those points, perhaps allowing the air pressure to deform the tread.

Have the tyre removed and checked by a reputable tyre centre

I replaced it straight away even though it still had about 4mm of tread left. You cant afford to take risks with tyres when you have 500bhp+ under your right foot. New P zero was £172 fitted which I thought was pretty good.

Are you running 18's? - that's a good price - I paid £240 for a 19" PZero.

Sorry for the delay in replying, I've been on holiday. I'm running 19s so I thought it was a very good price for P Zero Rosso
