Tyre Pressure Warning

On my wife's B180, I have today swapped over the wheels for some new 16 inch steel ones clad with some winter tyres. After a couple of miles, dash warning to check tyre pressure (which is fine).

Can't for the life of me work out how tyre pressure would be monitored anyway. Not like there can be any wires poking into the tyre!

Can I just reset the warning, or will it come back and if so why / how !?

Thanks

It's all monitored via the ABS sensors, measuring and comparing the speed of rotation of each wheel.

It will be described in the handbook how to reactivate the system. It's in one of the cluster menus. Have a scroll through On my cars it's been the second down on the main (default) display.

Did I read somewhere in this forum that they have special valves fitted for tpms?

The high-end system indeed incorporates sensors built into the tyre valves, and these measure pressure and often also temperature, then transmit it via radio link.

The basic system however does not have sensors and does not know what the actual tyre pressure is, instead it simply compares the rotational speed of the wheels via the ABS sensors based on the premise that a tyre with lower pressure will rotate at different speed to the others.
