Tyre size?

It can't be illegal or you wouldn't be able to use a space saver spare. Those are intended for 'temporary' use but AFAIK there's no legal restriction on time or distance (just speed ... normally 50 mph).
Different sized tyres is an MOT fail, but having the same each side on different rims (the OP's setup, I think) isn't:

There is one exception to the above:

Hmmm. My setup would be 255 rear and 225 front on one side and 255 rear and 225 front on the other side?

55 rear and 225 front on the other

Spares are running the same rolling radius as standard wheels or within a small percentage that's acceptable. Using odd sized tyres or rims on the same axle is illegal. Spares are what they are ,to be used only as a spare .

Google search for W204 code 782 throws up (amongst other things) this :
"According EPC optioncode 782 is partnr A1714011602 (front) and A1714011702 (rear).
Should be this wheel"
or:
A2044019902 Rear 8.5j 18" AMG
A2044019802 Front 8j 18" AMG

Those in your post are 5 spoke, not 7 spoke.

The A204 part numbers match the car number (S204) and are closer to the current 10 spoke wheels Steve has on the car. I had no joy trying to find what the original spec/options list showed for Steve's car, well done you for finding those part numbers!!

Just searched for W204 18" AMG wheels on Ebay. Remembered that someone posted that 7 spoke were standard, and scrolled until I found those numbers. Also posted links on the other thread.

Bizarre question. I have seen stuff (mainly on Wheeler Dealer!) where they "rework" alloy wheels. Are there companies who could reduce a 8.5jj alloy to 8.0jj?

Stop laughing in the back!

LOL. Smartarse! Told you it was a bizarre question! I know I have read that alloys can be welded, so..........

Well don't give up on Jay at Mercland, he's got a good rep on here, and I'm sure he'll help if he can.

He may may well be able to lay his hands on a wheel for you :thumb:

Love this forum - people are so helpful. Many thanks to all those who have taken time to help me. A special shout-out to Jay at Mercland - which other dealer do you know who is trying to help 3 years after I purchased? Wow, just wow!

Looks like it's down to three options, decision will be governed by available finances.

1) Keep rims I have which will be refurbed with 2 new identical front tyres (rears are fine). After all, the two front rims have been different for over 3 years now (3 years MOT passed) with no problem at all. And the odds of a tester identifying the different rims must be remote in the extreme. Yes, I know not ideal but have already incurred £150 cost toward the refurb which will be an additional cost to any other option
2) Get some genuine 18" MB rims from ebay (if the seller in Guildford is happy to ship to Preston) which will need refurbing. They have good front tyres at 7mm but that saving will be negated by the costs already incurred above. However, I have been offered a contribution to the cost
3) Change to 17" MB wheels which I have been offered by Jay. Just waiting info if they need refurb and/or new tyres

Outsider: Look on FB Marketplace which people have suggested. My problem with that avenue is I may be buying something damaged and of course, no comeback

Any and all comments welcome. I mean, is it the end of the world to change 18" to 17"? As Mrs. Gollom said, it's only an inch........;):D:D

I have 17's on my S204 C220, changed them from 16's a few years ago, lost a lot of the "wallowing" in the ride without sacrificing ride comfort. Mine are staggered setup, from memory 7.5J fronts with 225/45 tyres, 8J rears with 245/40 (actually now 235/45 as I could not find 245/40 all season tyres anywhere). Tyres are Michelin XClimates front, Bridgestone all season rears. I suspect 17" tyres are somewhat cheaper than 18's and will give a softer ride, so Jay's offer might be a good bet for you!

Get the old wheels refurbished and accept one wheel is slightly smaller . You can look out for a single alloy afterwards. 👍

The chance to swap a mismatched set of 18" replica wheels for 17" MB ones sounds good to me, unless you're set on the appearance with 18s.

Anybody clever enough to take my signature pic and show me what 17" wheels would look like on it?

Not me! But I don't think you've mentioned which 17" wheels they are?
