Tyre size?

ET45 is sound as don't worry.

Your rims are compatible with the car and the tyres are sound too.

If you wanted to fit wider tyres you could fit 235/40/18. However i would not bother as they are 50% more expensive than 225/40/18.

235 40 18 on all 4 corners that would be ,not just on the front Even then your Speedo maybe out along with abs sensors . Tyres may rub on suspension legs and on full lock.

Hence the reason people have told you . The sizes on your fuel flap are the sizes that need to be fitted.

At 235/40/18 it would probably be "okay"

Go to willtheyfit.com and you can compare it will tell you how much the speedo will be out / ride height gain/loss.

At ET45 the tyre shouldn't rub the strut as your further out than stock at ET45

See post#20 😊

Thank god your here.

See post 3 . It should of ended there tbh. 🫣
Not if there was something I did not understand or did not initially make sense on a subject which was new to me. I know lots and lots about cooking & computing, but not about tyres. The debate has helped me understand more for which I am grateful and is what this forum was and is all about.

A dumb question is the one that is not asked

Not much use those sites as tyres aren't produced accurately regarding widths and aspect ratios , but people will quote them as reference for the next 100 years .

Well they are of much use.

They give a ball park.

They are not good at all , anything can say anything , it's what actually happens real world that matters .

I had to hand two wheels , one with 205 55 16 and also a 235 45 17 , both tyres just on the wear bars and worn evenly , the online poo says overall diameter difference between them is 11.4 mm just resting horizontally on the 205 55 16 was a piece of 22mm tall wood and the 235 45 17 was taller again , no where near 11.4 mm !

Jesus! I got to put him on ignore again!
We are all going to die because tyres are all wrong! Big Rubber is conning us!

An update on this...

Summary - the specified tyres never seem to quite fit the wheel (front nearside was the one I was looking at most) so very easy to kerb.

Dropped it off this morning to get all four wheels powder coated and the owner just called me. Seems I have a REAR wheel on the front nearside!! So, 3 x 245 and 1 x 225 (the car has a staggered set up) That explains why the specified tyre never fitted properly! LOL

Need new front tyres so I really cannot afford a new 225 alloy as well (assuming I could even got one) Guess I'll have to live with odd wheels on the front

Bizarre!

Will (should) that setup pass an MoT?
