Unavoidable downloaded program

I meant to say, uncheck the program from the list so it doesn't start.

Sp!ke,
I do not know anyone who decides to install a virus, otherwise there would be no need for antivirus software. I have installed a little piece of do do, noy by choice, that sits in my tool bar telling me to go to another web site to download a program. I cannot find where this little piece of software is in my PC to delete it. And for those who think this is getting a little hot, calm down its only a discussion:D :D

What is the name of this trojan . if we know the name it does help for uninstallation

The identity of the thing is v important, I had a similar problem on my daughters pc, I suspect she got it by clicking OK on a pop up that asked a seemingly innocent question like " do you want to get rid of spyware" or something with only an OK button to press.

Anyway it was a real b*gger to get rid off, it was Cool Web Search (CWS) and tried a similar approach to Sp!kes advice and got nowhere because the thing was made up of multiple bits which would check if the other parts of the program still existed and then re-create them at the next boot.

So I thought I had deleted the start-up programs, then ran my anti-virus and then re-booted, only for the malicious little b*st*rd to re-create itself for the next boot.

I was very close to having to re-format the hard drive but finally found a safe site which had a specific tool which eventually cleared it.

You can get safe software here

My advice is to take it slowly, and don't panic too early about having to re-format (and use firefox in the future)
