SL500 & The Fart Car
Last week in Florida, when faced with hiring a Hyundai Pony whilst on a business trip, I asked if there were any promotions on that might tempt me to upgrade at my cost.

For a mere $70 extra they offered me a Camero SS, a 6.2L V8 convertible… an offer that would be plain rude to refuse.

Initially I was comparing the Camero to my R129 and whilst the Camero was a nice car, I found many areas where the SL was better screwed together and more well thought out. However I did a quick google and found out that the flagship model was a mere $40k or in real terms only £24k for a new one.

This is simply gobsmackingly awesome value. You get a 415HP 6.2L V8 convertible that looks the dogs dangles, has 4 seats, a beautiful sounding engine, surprisingly good handling with 20” wheels and a superb sound system for Ford Focus money. I’ll concede that the interior isn’t particularly luxurious with a little bit too much cheap plastic and rather odd ergonomics (I assume for the larger American) but overall, for £24k this car is bloody amazing. Hell, its so good , I wonder how much it would cost to import one. Even a left hooker would be worth the pain for this money.

Anyway, I’ll let the pictures do the talking.

Who here wouldn’t consider one of these, new for £24K?

Shows we pay over the odds for our cars.

Not sure I could live with one long term, but one hell of a cubic displacement for the cash.

If you had no shipping costs or insurance then it could be yours with VAT &import duty paid for £32283.83. Of course you have to add shipping and insurance with import duty 10% and VAT @ 20% added so probably between £40 - £45k.

so buy one and have someone re-trim it in a decent fashion! simplez

Lovely car but has a bit of a naff rep in the US

i.e. divorced medallion man, mid life crisis, looking for young talent.

On the other hand it seems that EVERY car in the US will stereotype you in some way or another.

Indeed, whereas in the UK only.......a divorced medallion man, mid life crisis, looking for young talent....would consider such a car... :D

I would consider that car for £24k... and I've never been married and am "under 25"... looking for young talent? If by young you mean in my age group... sure :p

Not quite sure how you got the latter totals when surely container shipping + insurance + an agent + VAT/duty on that shouldn't be more than £2500-3000 if the supplying dealer is in a port city. However, I can believe those totals if you have also factored in delivery within the UK, the cost of an SVA inspection, required modifications to lights etc. and the hefty first year registration tax.

You can bet your a*se it won't be £24k when it gets here though.

What a load of silly bunts

(That will mean something to Monty Python fans.... :bannana:)

Isn't that the main car they use in the filming of the new Hawaii Five O series, in silver.

We both love that car, looks stunning from the outside, a real muscle car
