Upgraded Sat Nav Problem

Hi there

I've got a 2006 ML 320 CDi Sport.

Just upgraded the standard audio unit for a DVD sat nav comand unit. All connections are OK and I have installed the retrofit aerial. Audio and telephone functions work OK but Sat Nav will not work at all. Does not seem to read the DVD (Version 8.0). CD's will not play either.

Any suggestions?

Definitaly the right unit (via part number)

Retrofit aeria is GPS and connected to blue connection.

Purchased from E-bay I'm afraid (in Lithuania!) Although I have a money back guarantee the postal strike and holidays mean that I have gone way passed the return date. Help!

OOps!! It may be worth contacting Alfie, a forum member, who may be able to offer some advice. Unfortunately there seems to be a number of people who have experienced problems with Lithuanian sourced units, while others have been fine. Hope it's something that can be sorted.

Thanks Trophy

May have made a mistake here. However there is a glimmer of hope. I have just tried a CD cleaning disc in the unit which has solved the CD problem and I have a map on the sat nav. However, the sat nav is not functioning on all cylinders. Will contact Alfie.

Cheers Mate. It's cold out there to be messing round with it right now.

Time for a beer!

Doesn't the unit need to be enabled with StarDiagnose?

Or is that only for the cluster display?

I think the star diagnose is needed for the rest of the instrument cluster to work in conjunction with the new unit. I am intending to replace the car next year (with a new ML) so was thinking I would take the sat nav unit with me thus saving on the cost of additional extras.

Any advice appreciated

I installed comand into my old ml and APS30 in my sl. It takes a few miles of driving around for the satellites to be received and for the system to work out where it is.
Try going for a three or four mile drive, and around a few roundabouts, and see how the navigation is then.

Oh dear!

First off you need a genuine DVd not a copy. Second you should get the unit coded with STAr to update the firmware and enable the cluster. You should also get the MOST ring coded to reflect what is actually on the bus.

What do you get on the map display when you ask it to show the satellites?

There are a lot of dodgy aerials (and comand units out there!).

Good news

The unit works. The DVD is an original and works fine now that I have run a DVD cleaner through it and remounted the GPS aerial.

Star stuff will enable the rest of the instrument cluster but it works just fine without.

Thanks for all your responses. Want to get IPOD connection now that I'm on a roll. Will do a new post.

Thank you again.

Do all the other MOST components work still? Phone, CD changer etc ?

Good news, I'm glad it works okay for you.
