Urgent electrical problem-petrol cap

Cannot get petrol cap open on Merc SL R230 on a 03 plate. Stuck at petrol station with no petrol. Is there a manual way to open the petrol cap without the electronics being used. HAVE GOT NO PETROL AND AM DESPERATE!!

Can you get to the other side of the petrol cap in the boot? there me be a manual release behind the trim.

Other than that can you prise it open slighlty, its usually only a plastic clip that keeps it locked. Ease it open?

Not sure but on a w203 theres a flap inside the boot, have a look

In case anyone has this problem in future and finds this thread the handbook doesn't make it very clear and it is about 4 times as difficult as the handbook makes out. The knob you need to pull is hard to find as it's hidden behind a skin of metal in the boot.

Best thing to do is run your hand up the fuel tank funnel until you reach the back of the cap, move your hand back slowly until you feel something circular that will turn freely, pull that quite hard but gently and the fuel cap lock will slide open.
