Hi all
Got a problem with my `99 E320CDI. I decided in my wisdom to change batteries in my keyfob on Sunday. It turned out that I only had one battery in the drawer, so I changed just the one. This did help, though, unlocking etc seemed much more responsive than before I changed the battery. Car started and all seemed ticke - de - boo. Left car till I needed to go to work last night, Monday evening. Doors unlocked, key went in and would turn, but nothing from the engine, it didn`t turn over, nothing. I assume this is the immobiliser which has kicked in, for some reason. Upon checking the key, I did realise that I had used the wrong battery , it was a battery for calculators etc, although still 3 volt etc. I went to get the right batteries, but the same result, nothing from the engine. I have tried the other keyfob, which is not brilliant but does work, again to no avail, which make me think it is the cars immobiliser, not the key fob. Could anybody help me, please?

Sounds like the EIS or starter motor has gone to lunch.

Before doing anything try moving the gear selector through the range.
Another test would be to use a fly lead to put 12v straight into the starter solenoid, but ensure the gearbox is in park.

Cannot be the immobilizer, in this model the key would not turn if the key did not pass authentication. Also not related to bad key batteries, you can remove the batteries and the car would start (if everything else is working fine).

Is the car battery good and fully charged? Issues with the starter motor, solenoid or even starter relay may appear with a bad battery.
