V6 v V8 sound

The majority of the sound you hear is from the exhaust while tick over. You only hear the input (whoosh) when you rev it. Basically, perfect crank and piston firing order. Personally, a V6 sounds more powerfull when revving. But other will disagree !

I'm quite impressed by the V6 sound through twin exhausts. At 5K to 6K it sounds like it's doing the business. Quite a contrast to the normal purrrrrrr.

how can i make my 2.2 sound like a V8?!? haha :P

actually speaking of V8s, I heard an old school 1969 426 Hemi while i was in Cali, still makes me tingle everytime i think about it!

I test drove a ML430 V8 and it sounded awesome; very much reminded me of the sound my old 1991 RR 3.9SE made. However, the 15mpg average on the obc put me of.

I settled for a less tuneful, but more frugal v6 3.2

Wonder if it had a modified exhaust? Most stock V8 M-Bs are very muted.

I love the sound of a straight 6; my M104 makes a lovely kind of 'jet engine' whooshing noise between 2500-3700 rpm, and then a throaty roar above that :)

x2. I had an I 6 and a V8 and the I6 wins everytime for noise, driving characterisics.

Revving engines in neutral with no load on gives a crappy sound compared to when it is under load.

V8 every day of the week, I like an engine with big lungs, and most V8 engines do this. Oddly, the Audi RS4 V8 sounded great, but felt too much of a revvy engine, it didn't feel like I think a V8 should feel like.

One of the greatest sounding engines though tomy ears is the BMW M3 CSL, absolute gorgeous!

Dave!
