hi guys

my CLK 230 has developed a vibration, it sarted off barely unoticable but is getting worse. The ball joint in the front left wheels definatly needs replaced anyway, do you think that the ball joint getting worse could cause the vibration? also what is easier, to replace the hub or to replace the ball joints ?

thanks

Depends which CLK you have W208 [ early ]or W209 [ later] as they have different front suspensions. The earlier W208 used the same front suspension as the W202 saloon. This has top and bottom ball joints both of which can go. Upper joints are a frequent MOT failure. Both can be renewed without renewing the hub assembly but the upper joint is integral with the small upper suspension arm and must be renewed as a complete unit afaik. The later W209 is a strut arrangement.

ps vibration on the move is often associated with tyre defect , wheel balance, or hub bearing adjustment so these should be to be checked also.

thank you, good advice - im in deepest darkest africa right now but i think ill have my wife take it in, if it is a tyre dont want to take any chances - its a w208 by the way, i will be doing the work myself when i get home as the joints defo need replaced ( but it did sail thru its mot last week, no mention of the ball joints - not sure if that should worry me !!)
