Looks good, but for that you could have a COMAND unit retrofitted, complete with a line in for your iPod.

Personally I'm more a fan of keeping the OEM look, but its your car!

I'd agree. the OEM look is best, and sooner or later you'll get fed up with that screen stuck in your face.

Not sure if you have the multi function steering wheel but the Alpine SportsCoupeRich recommended in another thread actually has a plug in to link up to the steering wheel, AND you can get a plug in for your iPod. From what i remember the unit is around £400! so you get a unit to replace the Audio10, and get the additional features to go with it. :bannana:

I would think the Pioneer would blow a Command unit away - the Satnav is so so IMO and I have not heard an impressive sounding OEM MB yet!

I have the Pioneer AVIC 9DVD in my 'stretched limo' and COMAND in the E-class. I suppose the Pioneer presents a prettier picture, but it is the verbal directions that are most important, and both are on a par with each other.

If it is possible and financially viable I would recommend the COMAND simply to keep the car looking 'right'.

I've had that pioneer unit before and it is the daddy. The command is useless next to it.

I like the OEM finish but if you want the better sta nav then the pioneer is the way ahead and when you sell the car just have it removed.

Just as an afterthought. The same people write the mapping software for both the E-class and Pioneer.

John

i'd get the pioneer unit. far better to create an all encompassing entertainment system if you are not fussed about retaining OEM look. Reversing cameras etc will all be awesome and i personally love the big screen...alpine do a touch screen

Just don't drool on the touchscreen eh? :)

Forgot I posted this last night...

This is currently up on Ebay and I am quite a fan of Alpine.

Not interested in retro fitting the Comand. As for OEM look when the car goes the audio 10 will slot back into place. I am really starting to miss decent quality audio and need to choose a decent headunit.

A few other things to tackle are the pathetic rear door speakers. Has anyone changed these and if so what with???

*EDIT*

Now this looks a better deal

Pioneer Unit with 6CD changer thrown in.

*EDIT AGAIN*

Just contacted a friend in the trade waiting to see what price he comes back with cant see him beating it though.

Doest this make sense

Also 90% of modern merc's need a part called a CAN-BUS interface in order for navi's to function properly.
Basically the speedo signal in most merc's is a can-bus type signal via 2 twisted cables (can high & can low), and unfortunately navigation systems do not yet speak this lauguage. The speedo signal input into the navi needs to be a square wave. The can-bus interface is basically a translator, that effectively conerts the can high & low into a conventional square wave output. This means your navi will work quite happily, as its seeing the type of signal it needs.

Now are you sitting down????

CAN-BUS interfaces are £149-00 mate.

There is a slim chance you won't require one, but i wouldn't know until i've had a look at the wiring harness in your car.

I've been off work for the past few days so i'm not quite sure whats booked in this week until i get to work in the morning.
If you want, then gimme a bell tomorrow at some point, or call round if your passing by

Cheers, (and i hope the above makes sense lol!!!!)

Brian.

You have a regular speed pulse, so that lot was a load of b*llocks.

Thanks for confirming my thoughts. It made no sense so thought I would check it out. Basically I have tried nocking him down to the last penny so i Guess he thought there may be a way to make a bit back.

I consider myself to be competent at installing car audio etc but would this sort of thing need to be installed by someone or would it be best to have it done 'properly'?

Thanks

Isn't it basically a headunit swap? How hard can it be? :)

The only bit that requires you to be a bit creative is positioning and securing the GPS antenna, the rest should be easy.

Yeah thats what I thought.

Does the Sat nav not take the speed off the GPS signal anyway? I dont understand where the requirement for the mercspeed / interface crap comes in.

Surley its as you say I have not looked at the wiring and have been unable to find pics of the back of the unit.

I dont even know if the C43 has ISO connection???

Nav with GPS and speed pulse is always preferable to GPS-only, it's a lot more accurate and works much better in areas where sky-visibility is poor (like in a city or a tunnel).

It does, and speed pulse is on there too.

Shaun,

If you can do ICE you can install SatNav.
