hello,a picture of the car with an up arrow comes on after about 2 mins and says visit workshop ,turn key off and on and it goes ,,suspension on all level works and its the airmatic system

car is a2002 270 cdi,,thanks tony

could be a bad connection to the compressor , or any one of the sensors

Is your car fitted with 'Airmatic'? I have a similar message on my E270 Estate. I do not have 'Airmatic', only the standard self levelling suspension at the rear. It seems to be working fine so I suspect the level sensor at the rear but have been quoted £103 (+vat) to diagnose the fault (separate thread in General Discussion).

One point that may confuse things is that I have Xenons and I think they use the level sensors for height adjustment.

My dilemma is: If I replace the level sensor will I still need Star to clear the fault or configure the new sensor?

Been under the car this afternoon to check the level sensor and all appears to be OK, although I really don't have much of an idea how it should look, but connectors and link arms are all still connected.

I think I may have to book into a local Indy to get codes read and hopefully pinpoint the problem.

Where is the pump for this system? Does it share the same pump as for the rear headrest control?

The pump is behind the front bumper on the passenger side ,My car was giving the same message , it was caused by a bad connection to the compressor

Shorty, you're a star. Found the pump and sure enough a wire was broken at the connector to the compressor. Luckily I was able to push the pin from the connector and solder the broken wires together, sleeved, wrapped tightly with tape and tidied up wiring with cable ties and all is well. I no longer need to "Visit Workshop".

To get to the pump I first removed the front undertray, but found access was much better by removing the inner wing on the passenger side. It took some time to figure out how to remove the pin from the connector but eventually a good push with a small screwdriver popped it out.

A great start to the New Year!

Thanks.

Another great example of everyone helping each other out , its ggreeeattt.

It's strange that the height adjustment still worked if there was a broken wire on the pump. Maybe there was enough air in the system to allow it to work for a period of time with a pump fault?

No Idea,

The pump has two connections; Power and Control. The broken wire was on the control connector so the pump still had power. The height adjustment was not working and the rear ride height was higher than normal.

Once the wire was repaired the rear height dropped to it's normal level.

Hope that clarifies things.

Sorry but I mixed up your posts with Piperdog's and thought he had found a broken wire . Hence my confusion about him being able to change height despite having damaged pump wiring :o
