Vito 120
My first post – can’t find the answers I’m looking for on the search.

Just got a 2006 Vito 120. Rear tyres need doing (Michelin & Dunlop), fronts are ok, but a make I’ve never heard of – “Triangle”. Wondered if anyone has any experience of these?

So, I need two new tyres – I guess these should go on the front, put the Triangle’s on the back?

Wondered what tyre make other 120 Dualiner owners go?

And what tyre pressures you run (the book is a bit confusing). Two adults up front, dogs in a cage in the “boot” – around 120kg) plus occasionally pull a caravan. Does 39psi all round so about right?

Thanks

Hi & welcome.

I use Continental Vancos. Tyre pressures are on the plate by the filler cap, you should normally use the 'light load' figure ... then the higher one for towing.

Sorry to butt in on the conversation, but how much are you paying for your vanco continentals BTB , i have had wildy varying quotes from £139 each fitted to over £230 !!!! . Just Curious as to what your paying and where from

Thanks

Nick

Thanks for the replies.

Hmm the Triangles don’t sound too clever! I think I’ll swap them to the back and get new for the front for the time being.

Local prices for 225/60/16 102:-

Goodyear NCT5 = £147
Continental Prem 2 = £159

Any preference for Continental over Goodyear?

Is the Continental Prem 2 the same as Vancos?

I last paid £538 all-in for four Continental VancoContact (225/55 R17 101H). That was actually at Kwik-Fit (!) ... you do have to shop around as prices change regularly from vendor to vendor. The Continentals are factory-fit, I'm very happy with the grip (wet & dry) and lifespan.

Cheers BTB , Kwikfit are close second at the moment, with Central tyres coming close, just seen the link to the AA tyres site, who guarantee to beat any price by at least £1 so will give them a go and see what they can do for me .

Worth checking TyreShopper too - as they are on Quidco (Quidco - The UK's No.1 Cashback & Voucher Codes Site) you can get 4% cashback on top of the prices with some careful purchasing.

Looking at tyres on there at the moment and they are fitted at National Tyres, and I can get 30% better prices through that site than just turning up at National or booking on their own website......then there's the 4% to consider (on the ex-vat price) so it's worth a gander?

HTH,
Cheers,
Dan.

Went for Goodyear EfficientGrip 225 60 16 H 102 on the rears today.

Wheels are being refurbished next week, so I'll have the option to swap them to the front. Owners manual says new tyres should always go on the front. Tyre fitter said to leave them on the back? To my mind, weight transfer under heavy breakdown means the Goodyears would be more useful than the Triangles on the front? I don't drive like a loon "all the time", so less grip on the rear is less of a problem?

As for pressures, manual and door sticker says 33psi? Previous owner was running at 38. They don't look particularly round at 33. Tyre fitter put them up to 36psi all round (without asking me)?

BTB 500 - I've seen your Vito before on Agility Net. I looked at K9 cages - decided to go for a Barnesbrook :)

I would follow the advice in the handbook i.e. new tyres on the front as this is specific to the Vito and takes into account how the ESP etc. works on this vehicle. But it's true the general advice is usually that they should go on the rear since oversteer is typically more serious than understeer.

My tyres (225/55 R17 101H) are also supposed to be 33 psi all round. I've been using 35-36 for some time though, which seems better.

My caging has been pretty good, only issue after 5 years is that the bottom doors have discoloured a bit ... could have been better galvanised I guess.
