Vito 638 fuel question

Just to clear this up a bit for you. The diesel system is not like old types where you crack an injector. The system is pressurized from the High pressure pump into the fuel rail. The injs are then switched on to allow diesel into each cylinder. Trying to bleed the system allows the pressure to drop and engine cuts out and EDC light comes on.

So if air is getting in then the fuel pressure may be irregular or too low and cut out. It looks like the middle pipe is going to the HP pump ( or coming from) Really you need to figure the bubbles out. The pump is easy enough to access just keep removing things till you can get at it.

Ok thanks for the info. I put some more diesel in it yesterday. It seems to have stopped with the white smoke. Now looks blue :-/. It is still cutting out tho and has the bubbles in the fuel line. So am starting to go through and replace the lines.

At the risk of sounding repetitive Kingswood636, my money is still on a damaged O-ring on one of the pipes you removed when you worked on the sensor. They are easy to damage, and relatively cheap to replace (compared to fuel lines anyway).

I hear you dude. Thing is when I replaced the seals on the sensor I didn't disconnect any other fuel lines. So I'm not sure of these O rings on the fuel lines that you mention.

Ah right. Ok. So this is the pipe on the top of the fuel filter?! I didn't touch this to change the seals on the sensor. As that is under the EGR valve. But the pipe in that picture is the one with bubbles in and when I tried I remove it it broke one of the clips. So iv got a new one from merc for £14. Should be collecting it tomorrow. Hopefully this sorts it.

their should be no bubbles in the pipes

id change all the o rings including the fuel delivery pump - its a bit of a tight job but when their are no bubbles and its still doing it then go to the next step.

Make sure the pipes running from under the high pressure pump are not rubbing on the belt as the securing clips break and they make a whole in the pipes. is the belt wet with diesel.

I don't remember the belt being wet. Where abouts will I find the fuel delivery pump? Iv got a new middle pipe on the fuel filter. Going to try that first as this is the one with air in it.

I have finally fixed my van! After messing about with a few things. I changed the fuel filter. This has sorted out the air in the fuel lines and stopped it from cutting out!!! Woop woop.

So the filter I got doesn't have the sensor on the bottom of it. So this plug isn't plugged in now. Could this have been the reason for my troubles?

What's is the plug for? Is it ok to run without it?

Thanks for everyone's help!!

Dave.
