Vito MK1 outer CV boot

I have a mercedes Vito MK1 the drivers front suspension springs broke. I have the suspension strut out for the sitting and noticed the outer CV boot is perished. As the strut is already off so undoing the axel bolt will be difficult would it be an easier job to remove the hub and the joint together? Is the Vito CV joint held on with a spring clip which would allow it to be knocked off the end of the axel?

Get someone to stand on the brake and get your breaker bar at the right angle to avoid suspension movement and the axle nut will come off OK.
