VX Insinia

I've had 3 Astras, 1 Belmont (hides in corner) and 1 Chavalier (pun intended)...

Faults ................hmmmm NONE......

each car did around 70,000 miles before changing......

I agree though if they changed to Opel it would move the marque upmarket....should have done it for this one model.

Would I buy one? Not sure - I do like MB and VX engines aren't very efficient.

Don't have any issues with Vx - Mrs E swapped a Mondeo for a Vectra and she abused it for 6 years. Only thing replaced outside of regular servicing was a coil pack (110,000 miles).

I had a 2.5 V6 Omega Elite and did of 40k miles a years in 4 years with it. Water pump at 90k and coil pack at 120k.

Problem is image - Vx is a "heritage" brand and is why GM keep it here in the UK. We always used to ask "why?" when we were involved in the marketing a few years back and there is a tremendous amount of brand loyalty. Opel has very little recognition in the UK - market research shows that the vast majority of people in the UK have no idea what Opel is and if they have any connection with Vx.

Vectra was unashamably pitched at the fleet market and was even set up to run at it's best on a UK motorway. No doubt Insignia is the same (not involved with Vx any more, so pure speculation).

Ugly car. Lazy, derivative design. Looks like a Hyundai or an old Kia

I said exactly the same to Mrs BTB when it was on 5th Gear earlier in the week, and she agreed completely!

I've owned 4 Vauxhalls so not "anti" the marque in general.

Ugly car. Lazy, derivative design. Looks like a Hyundai or an old Kia, and is riddled with Jaguar rip-off, presumably because that's supposed to make it look classy.

.

I saw one as it pulled up along side me on the way home last night and its a very "bulbous" car, especially from a 3/4 view from behind. The roof slopes a lot, and testers have commented that whilst its a large car, its not particularly spacious inside. I don't see why the car needs to be as large as it is. Seeing inside with its instruments lit up, it looked really classy.

You could argue that the old vectra resembled the Audi A4, especially side on profile (read design of the windows). I don't know how radical a design you want, but a car like that will always have a "generic look".

My main gripe with the Insignia (and mondeo + other family size hatch/saloon). The drive train. They are effing FWD, RWD is just sooooo much better as that alone merits a BMW, Jag XF (used) or MB over one of those. They need to give us a modern day Omega, with all the nice insignia bits with drive to the rear.

drove to bristol & Back yesterday from Brum. The car performed very well ,in fact i would go for a 2.0 l 4 cyl next car.Great on the motorway and very comfortable.lots of extras on this basic car.not as classy as e class or 3 series, but a great company car.Have not driven off motorway much so cannot comment on handling or acceleration on country roads or overtaking.Looks big on the outside and is roomy inside.overall I liked it.

MPG 46
Avg sp probably 75ish.
car had only done 270 miles at pick up.
