Hi everyone,

I have just bought a Mercedes 420 SL 1986 model

Can anyone tell me where I can buy some parts for this car.

I am looking for a rear bumber and N/S mirror/ front lights under bumber and some other bits too.

If anyone know's these vehicles they have alot of crome and I would like to locate a croming company around the Merseyside area too, Or maybe it is better to buy new part/second hand ones.

Hi

Congratulations on your purchase.

All the parts you require can be bought new from mercedes, but the costs are huge, the front fog lights (under bumper) are around £160 each.

I would start looking on ebay or have very deep pockets.

I think that man is a joke with his prices, my god have you seen some of the parts he is selling on e bay, he wants £££££ for even one screw.

Ill have to pass on him and wait for another one. The one he is selling is not 100% but wants alot, ill have you a bet he wont sell it at that price.

You might try some companies in Germany for bits which might be cheaper but for something like a bumper you will get screwed for carriage charges, or keep an eye out on the German Ebay. http://translate.google.com/transla...&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&prev=/language_tools A trawl thro the back pages of "Mercedes Enthusiast" magazine will also detail some restoration companies who could maybe help with rechroming

Wobbley I was looking on the photos of your car, it sure is in great condition, do you use alot. I like the colour red on these cars, for me it is the best colour.

Hi Ian,

Thanks for the comment, my car is only used for pleasure, its garaged, and only comes out when the weather is good.

Its still a practical car, and gets used for runs to the seaside, but would like to take it to south of France or Spain for a few weeks.

Why dont you post some pictures of your car.

I am just going through the same process with my 280SL and have only today spoken to Len @ Openshaw Metal Polishers 0161 3711876.He will prepare your chrome bumper inserts etc and then have them rechromed.You will have to remove them from the bumper with no rubber remaining on them.Hope this helps.
