I called in at Mercedes Bradford today and they had a 1978 450 SEL 4.5 in for a service.
Absolutely pristine condition in Cayenne Orange with grey velour seats, 54000 miles and one owner from new. I couldn't help but think that the car was older than most of the people working there and as they couldn't *plug it in* would they know what to do with it ?

There can't be too many cars from 1978 that still have a full main dealer service history, and there probably wasn't another car on the forecourt that will still be around in 29 years time.

Or have only done 54,000 miles...

Ray, was the driver a bearded bloke buying an engine mounting?

There was a similar vintage SE in at Mercedes Coventry on Wednesday. I didn't see which model, but it was a bright reddish colour...

Pointless taking it to a MB Stealership for servicing as a expert/specialist needs to work on the car that knows it inside out and it would also be a lot cheaper!

I made the mistake in 2002 of taking my former W126 to a MB Sealer for servicing and additional work as I had a FMBSH and also had to pay the full labour rates (without any discount for labour/parts). They did not even have a service schedule for the model in their workshop to hand for the 18000 mile interval service for the vehicle and they did not even change the fuel filter when they should have done so (which was part of the service) amongst a number of other things.

Sounds like Ops normal then
