Hello all,

I’m after a bit of help, I’m just about to change the brake fluid in my W123. I have read some of the posts on this site so quite happy to do the job.

The thing is I have noticed the main hose that goes to the master cylinder is very age hardened and I would like to replace as much as possible. Can anyone advise me on the correct hose to use for the replacement?

Also advise on brake fluid would be appreciated.

Kind Regards

Brett

master cylinder? This should be a metal pipe?

Ive just replaced all mine, metal and rubber and got them from Mercedes. Brake fluid you can just use DOT3.

Or is it manual?

Its probably the vacuum hose, in fact it came off a while back and I have noticed the brake are very hard without really doing much.

Yep one of them "LINE,From vacuum pump to brake booster assy"

It came off.

So what does that mean, would there be some kind of de-pressurisation or something.

As I said, I don't know when the fluid was last changed so im going to change the fluid anyway.

Found a crack in the hose, cut it back re-connected it and good as new.
Now to replace the brake fluid.

Thanks for your help, I feel more knowledgeable now.

In the original post, the hose is described as "very age hardened".
It is a safety-critical part of the system and could easily split again.
You don't want to find this out at your moment of greatest need !!

Thanks johnsco,

Firstly a bit surprised somebody has read the whole post!
Secondly you are right, the car is not actually being used, its all working perfectly but I am waiting to replace the hose before I take it out on the road properly.

Off to Valencia next week so I will order the parts and do it when I get back.
