Hello All

I have an intermittent problem with brakes on my W123. I have to depress the pedal almost down to the floor sometimes before pumping pedal again to recover pressure.

Is this just air in the hydraulic system – or could it be something more serious? I will ask the garage to check master cylinder plus I will ‘test’ servo as per Haynes Manual.

New discs and new pads not long ago – garage lost original filler cap, have ordered a replacement for a Mercedes Vito as it appears designs have not changed in 30 years!

Thanks in Advance.

Hi

Assuming no loss of brake fluid and brake pads replaced recently, could be air in system if not bled correctly. Check flexible hoses not "bulging" when brake pedal applied. If all above correct then master cylinder faulty, servo only helps you push the pedal, would not cause your fault.

Thanks Gary – turns out the fluid was NOT replaced when discs and pads were done. Garage has now bled the brakes so fingers crossed this should sort out the problem…

I think "fingers crossed" and "brakes" don't belong in the same sentence

Do the people at the garage know what they are doing?
