Hi all,

I have a 1993 220CE which has a long term intermittent starting problem (2 years). Without any warning it will sometimes not start, turns over fine but doesnt fire-up. I have replaced the fuel pump and fuel pump relay and its made no differnece at all. It normally does start, but only after 10 mins of swearing and waiting to hear a click from the engine compartment. Any ideas?

The car does have an immoboliser that works with a transponder on the key ring, however when this isnt in place the car doesnt even turn over, so i assumed it cant be this

There must be another relay under the bonnet, that is what makes the 'click'.

Just to update this post, I have solved the problem (thanks lookskyward1), the voltage overload relay was duff (located on the bulkhead). She starts fine now. Hope this helps somebody else with the same problem. Its easy to spot as its a big alum. relay with a fuse on the end under a perspex cover. A gentle tap will make the pump jump into life.
