W124 320 engine conversion, please help!!

I've done this conversion. Its a pain in the ****. For the power gains you will get its just not worth it IMO.

+1 ^

So very true...;)

Cost per HP gained is a bit high.

You could have a look on here etc for information on the twin turbo conversions that were done in the past by Hughes of Beaconsfield.

C36 engine swap is the typical choice to go with, IF you have a complete donor car and a 1995 model one at that too. Apart from the engine from that donor, you will need the ECU, wiring loom and the 2.87 rear diff as majority of them had ASD too.

I don't know what engine you have at the moment, but if its a 320 then you could build your own twin turbo setup on that. Aim for 350bhp via a piggy back ECU or even a complete standalone system, and it'd pretty much p*ss all over a C36. You'll be into V8 territory.

I reckon £1500 might buy you a good used Super charger (see eBay for examples), pipe work, intercooler & piggy back ECU plus odds & sods. The rest is really labour - mounting the S/charger & cooler plus tuning. I suspect at a modest boost pressure you could be looking at more power & far better torque than the 3.6. It's an idea if nothing else.

I have a 320 engine in mine, i like the idea of supercharger or a turbo conversion

You can buy a 126 with a V8 in it for less than a grand. Shove that in and make a real car!

If your planning on going "all-out" on it then get it stripped to the bare shell and shoe-horn the engine and box from a 500SEC into the engine bay. Uprate the suspension and brakes, C43 diff and drive shafts, weld in an FIA spec cage, plexi-glass windows, chuck in some bucket seats with 5 point harnesses and strap yourself in for 1 helluva ride lol!

Got myself a W210 E36 AMG, complete car running, this may be the start of my conversion to my W124
