I've two w124's one came with a manual aerial and one with an automatic job. Which is the factory install?

Cheers, Andrew

Is there any off the shelf "plug" if I were to take the aerial out?

if you want to remove the aerial and plug the hole, then i've never seen anything available to block the hole, other than filling and repainting.

why not just let the aerial down and disconnect the power supply so it never raises?

There was no factory install, dealers fitted aerials and radios.

So a car could have a maystar/blau/hirshmann etc

Interesting...
Was this for UK cars only?

North American delivery 124's arrived at the POE with Becker radio and Hirschmann power aerial installed.

Are you saying that the UK main dealer drilled the aerial hole or was the vehicle imported with the hole and temporary hole plug ?
Doubt the dealer had to run the coax / power harness from the radio to the trunk?

The aerial kit came with a template, you had to cut the hole as part of the pdi.

There was just a plastic panel to cover the hole for the radio.

I've got a 1988 300TE that I brought in 1991 and under the seat I found the panel that would have filled the radio hole.

That's why they list 2 quarter panels, one with a hole and one without.

In England everything was an option, few 124s came with leather or aircon.

Understood..Thanks :thumb:

I purchased my 1988 300CE new in May of 1988 and watched it come off the trailer from the port.
No parts other then optional front license plate bracket ( if required ) was dealer installed as part of the PDI.

North American delivery cars had no options available other then the later model trunk mount CD changer..

All had leather or MB tex ( 260E ), climate control, power windows, sunroof, radio, auto transmission ( a few special order manual trans ) etc!

American cars were specced up, mainly due to the factory being such along way away, but also due to the limited model range, no 200/200E/230Es etc for you guys.

Interesting stuff. I made a panel for the radio and reclothed with material from a seat belt panel as I use a Phone and amp in the boot. This is why I was also looking at removing the antenna.

sounds intresting,
i wouldnt mind seeing some pis of that when yo get a chance,

also it may not look great but could you get a blanking grommit of some type, eg engine firewall plugger upper lol

if the correct size is around you could just use one of those, although filler and paint with a mesh tacked in behind would look miles better.
