hello all,
while surfing the internet I came across a nice W124 antenna upgrade in Japan,
I'm not sure if any serious mods have been made,as this car is in Japan.
IMHO it is a very nice upgrade.
what do you think?

I might consider it as a temporary if my original one packed up, looks as though they've flared the arches on it aswell.

Is that because its an E500 though?

Stick with original aerial

my concern would be what the radio reception would be like in terms of quality with the aerial being so low down.

Folk's concerns about reception may be justified depending where the car is used. On open flat terrain reception would be fine elsewhere not so good. It may have a built amplifier which would help but you have to have a signal to boost in the first place?

Hey!! Very nice, absolutely. Mine does not exist and am looking for a replacement. Have to say but, the fun of an electric unit is somewhat taken away with this. Any chance I could have that car shipped over?

The mechanism of my antenna ceased, that is why I liked this one,a maintenance free antenna,I think it is just like the new SLK antenna.
while searching for SLK antenna I came across this post,it may be very interesting to you all ,especially 'NO Name Benz'.Check this
regards

One thing to note is that later MB models with " built in" aerials such as in the rear window, rear bumper or short stub aerials do have small signal amplifiers built in to their supply/connection circuitry somewhere. They are some times multiplexed with radio telephony aerials/signals also. Not saying this is the case but a good quality automatic retractable mast takes a lot of beating imho
