Hi, it's not Acid but his little brother Sarim I thought I would share my new project with you guys.

I am in the process of partially restoring a E220 w124 Cabrio 1993 and since it was a 220, it didn't have enough power for me so I am getting rid of the old engine and replacing it with a non mercedes engine :ban:.

The car has literally no rust and been parked up for a few years, it has genuine 79,000 miles and at the moment is in two colours as it had a light front smash it was repaired before I brought it but not painted up.

I was going to stick originally with a mercedes engine, but for the kind of power I was going for it would cost me an arm and a leg and maybe one kidney, so to make life easier I am using a Toyota soarer 2.5litre TT 1JZ motor with Auto Gearbox,I have already brought a few items, The plan is keep to stock engine internals, I have just brought a Holset HX40 Turbo from a Tractor, Bigger 440cc injectors to start of with, Custom Mounts,Custom Intercooler Piping, Custom Manifold/Exhaust Custom Propshaft, most of which will be produced in house, Going to keep the original differential for the moment, and slowly upgrade in the future, I am going to use the Original Toyota wiring loom with original ECU but using a Greddy eManage Ultimate Piggyback ECU to control the Engine bits and bobs, enough talking ill start adding some pictures, I have forgotten to take some pictures because I get carried away working!

For the moment it will be running 400-450bhp as that's all the Autobox can handle, but surely in time will upgrade

The state of the seats was horrific, don't know how many years of fungi!!!

Interior stripped out

Engine bay jet washed and cleaned up

I'm surprised that rear wheel is still holding air !!

Me, myself would have put a big merkin V8 in to make a nice sound track. Soarer engine is an interesting option though..

And the wheels are horrible they will also be changed, but depending on what brake setup I go with the wheels will need to fit over! When finished it will have a AMG Gen 2 kit lowered on Coilovers/springs updated antiroll bars, and will, have the sleeper look!

This is the donor car, was a very nice example which has done 75k and a lot of money spent on it

The power plant

All stripped ready to come out

Yes your right can't beat the sound of a V8 but I thought I'll try something a little different and I've Always loved the noise of a turbocharged car, also it is a lot cheaper to upgrade in the future

Interesting idea and looking forward on watching progress reports, but shouldn't this thread be in the "Projects" section??

Aha, I've seen this in the flesh with both cars stripped out! Good to see progress being made. It is no doubt crazy :) but can't wait to see the finished project!

Nice one Sarim, looking forward to this hybrid w124!

A few More updates, as you can see both engines out, the soarer engine was partially stripped down turbo's removed and jet washed down thoroughly,

These are the Custom mounts

All cleaned up and started to spray it up make it look a little fancy

Quad layer Exhaust Manifold Gaskets

The Turbo Holset HX40w From a Tractor Engine :devil:

Just Waiting on The front sump to be modified for the oil drain and custom manifold flanges, and the engine will be ready to go into the car

I normally would shudder at swapping a non-Merc engine into any Merc, especially an A124

The Toyota swap has been done many times, especially in the Far East and with great results.

Visually to the untrained eye, it looks very much like a M104...
Looks like it belongs in the Merc engine bay ;)

Good luck :thumb::thumb:

Looks like a great swop to me. I'll give the back axle about 400 miles before something breaks!

Great choice in engine and with a single big turbo and a nice dump valve it will sound mental.

I love those engines, they can handle some serious power!

Yeah lol, dont think it will last long got a few ideas at the moment might go for a bigger stronger unit from a different merc which should fit in without any modifications

Use a 600 diff.

How will a cabriolet handle with 400bhp to control?

Yeah engine is a very strong unit, not to sure if i am going to use a dump valve yet as I think it might be too much, the turbo itself should sound pretty mental with just the filter,

You will need a dump valve for sudden throttle closings, but don't have to vent to atmosphere.

Yeah was going to go with something from a bigger engine, it should handle okay with the suspension upgrades (springs/shocks anti rollbars etc) they have extra stiffening bars underneath anyway, wether they help or not i will find out:confused:
