Hi there, if you have read my last post you will know i have just inherited a w124 estate with a few probs

i know very little about these cars and need some info on my climate/aircon

im not even sure if its air con or climate or if there is even a difference

the drivers side temp control wheel does not work, if you increase the temp from the coldest setting it gets very hot very quick

any ideas? the passenger seems to work fine, so guessing its the thermostat, can anyone shed and light on this

many thanks

Michael

Climate has a row of buttons across the bottom of the heater panel. Aircon has 3 vertical buttons in the centre of the heater panel and a temp control wheel on either side. If no buttons then no A/C. A/C was not standard even on the 320.
The centre of the 3 buttons is marked EC. If this is red then A/C is off. If not lit then A/C comes on if temp goes above set level. If you want constant A/C then set temp to minimum - the wheels will click past a notch - or press the top button.
Not sure about the fault but hopefully this will let you decide just what you have

hi
my '93 300TD has aftermarket a/c (not 'climate control') but I'm pretty sure it's standard controls.
Do you mean there's heat coming out only one side, as soon as you dial for heat? If its a/c type, could be the duovalve stuck on one side?
cheers!

I understand that the default for the heater system is to blow hot. Sometimes on my 300TD (with air con) it blows cold and then 'loses' the setting and starts blowing hot. I then move the dial all the way to hot and back down again to cold and it picks up the cold setting again. Mine only has had any problems on the drivers side too. I think it probably is a duovalve fault. Also bear in mind that middle vents only blow cold!

Hi there

the picture above with the three vertical buttons in the centre and the wheels either side is the same as on my car, i will try moving it up to hot and down again and i will have the duovalve checked out,

however it only blows cold when on the very coldest setting, if you move it up a notch it blows hot

thanks for info
