hi
the missus took the 300TD to Brum today, then found it wouldn't start, got a jump from recovery (made sure she read him the bit in the handbook first!) and started fine, home in time for tea and cake. Hurrah!
Not had any starting problems before, even through the winter, lights seem a bit dim sometimes but I think one of the h/l earths is weak...She did say she'd had the radio on all the time (five or six hours waiting for sprog to finish a lesson) so maybe just a little too flat?
When I checked it, got 14.2V at fast idle with lights on, and 13.6V with EVERYTHING on, but no more even at high revs. Seems a little low? I thought it would be more like 14.6V peak...
Recovery guy said 'the Volts were ok, but current was low' - I don't know how to check the current, but it occurred to me it could be a diode out in the regulator?
So is there any way to check the regulator? Or the alternator current?
cheers!
