Depression rules at Toad Hall at present ..... :(

My car has failed its MOT !

' Rear , near and offside subframe mountings excessively corroded '

Problem now is, i noticed that my MOT expired on 24th , the tax is due on the 1st April and now i can't tax it as i don't have an MOT .... My garage can't look at it until Monday ( just look at, not do it ) and they can't actually work on it until the following week as they are snowed under ....

Same with Ian at w124works ...

Until they look at it, i don't know how bad it is , whether it will require a patch or a whole new bit ....

Basically I am screwed , it's gonna cost loads to fix, money i just don't have :(

I'm gonna get fined for having no tax, and can't drive the car without tax or an MOT as there will be no insurance ....

Really really depressed :( don't know what to do ....

Dad won't go for that ..... i tried..... ;)

Sorry to hear that H I hate MOT time...:(

Do you know if it is the mounts on the car or subframe itself?

My car passed in november, but Ian said my actual subframe was shot, luckily I supplied him with a nearly new one that was attatched to the 24v diff...

Was there anything else?

You can do the SORN over the web.....or get an automatic £80 fine for no tax (it runs off a database these days - no need to "catch" you)....bit of a no-brainer?

As others have said Howard, SORN it until it's MOT'd and then tax it once it's all sorted. Saves you getting fined (which I'm sure you wouldn't want with the repair costs as well!)

Which garage did you take it to for the MOT and where were you going to take it for repair?

I can think of at least two other decent, reliable MB indies nearby - JP Motors at Hampton Court and (more MB-specialist) TM Motors in West Molesey.

It's only an MOT mate, could be a lot worse :)

At least the weather has been nice so far, best dust the old bicycle off eh!

Fingers crossed for a swift repair

Running an old cars as we do, you should really use the month you are allowed to have your MOT to your benefit. Doesn't help you much now though.

SORN it, keep it off the road, make do somehow and hope it's repairable for as little as possible.

Next year you will be more prepared I know!

Do you trust the MOT station? You could always try another for pot luck, although with the new online system I am not sure if they can tell it's been in for a test and failed.

If it's a border line judgement or a rip off at least you keep the car on the road before and you can get it checked out late. Not condoning unroadworthy car blah blah boring.

I just forgot !!

B****cks :(

That reminds me, mine runs out end of the month too. I get a creeking from the back, just before the car comes to a stop and I fear it may be the subframe mounts too.

Incidentally ....

If I declare it SORN , what is the minimum period it can be declared SORN for ...

It's possible it could be for less than a week , and the DVLA site says it can take up to four weeks for the paperwork to come through ....

So, if i try to re-tax it before the paperwork is through is this going to cause a problem ? or , once it's on the computer is that it and it's instantly updated ?

Thanks all

H

There is no minimum.
Just tax it when you are ready and it will cancel the SORN automatically.:D

The paperwork they refer to is your certificate of SORN.
You will get the chance to print out a receipt saing you've declared it SORN, if you do it online.

There must be somewhere local who can weld it up for you?

Surely if it's just a case of patching it up you don't really even need an MB specialist, just a decent welder?

Howard have you tried Steve the Mechanic from Kent? Not too far from you? :)

I feel for you Howard and when your down, sometimes things tend to kick you in the teeth. In answer to a question being asked, Howards vehicle is now on the MOT database and it will list everything the inspector found wrong. Whatever you do, do NOT get tempted to do anything silly. It is sods law you would get caught and then you would be in the proverbial.

Fingers crossed that it all works out.

Good luck,
John

Sorry to here this mate
pick something up for a couple of hundred with a ticket and buy yourself some time bud

Sorry I missed this earllier Howard. All a bit of a bugger really:( Been there myself in the past so I do feel for you. You do have no choice but to do the SORN on it though.

My car has failed its MOT !

Sorry to hear that, I fully understand you must be disappointed :(

The others have given good advice: don't do anything silly, take the car off road and get SORN.

I would add the following: things are never dark as they seem. No matter what, some solution will come out of all this. Problems are there to be solved and a way will be found :)

Let me add my commiserations Howard :(
