w124 E300d engine mounts

Do these have a pointer on the assembly like the M119s?

Mine has 4 cast in lines and my pointer is on the 4th so I presume this to mean that the tensioner is nearly kaput.

Dave!

Sorry do not know the answer to that one.

Just change the engine mounts and see what happens

One of the E300 Diesel mounts is different to the standard mounts. Suppliers like GSF always seem to supply generic parts for every model - Mercedes don't

Hi Nick,

I have recently changed the mounts in my E300D ('95, 217k). One was seriously shot, so I thought this might sort it. However, ever since, the engine appears to be resting on the body (or chassis? Not sure exactly where) when turning right on idle, or in reverse, resulting in a lot of rumble and vibration. The mounts were from GSF, and were the same part number for each side. I can move the engine by pushing/pulling it, which I would not really expect with new mounts (the engine in my 200TE is much firmer). I did notice that there was a small amount of oil which came out of one of the mounts if I inverted it as I was fitting, so is it likely that the fluid may have drained from one? There was no sign of fluid leakage on the item or the box when I removed it initially.

Have I bought the wrong items from GSF? They looked up by reg. no. so this should be correct for the chassis.

The engine does run a bit rough at idle (definite diesel clatter), and there are bubbles in the fuel pipes - (the O-rings is a job for warmer weather), but I want to sort these mounts first.

Many thanks,

Alex

Just replaced these today with genuine MB mounts, and all the vibration has gone.
The 'old' ones (only fitted a month ago) were visibly shorter, and have a different part number. Both sides have fluid visible within the unit, which I don't think is right. I'll be trying for a refund on these, as I suspect they gave me the wrong ones.

Pick up the fuel pipes tomorrow for the next job!

Just to mention, the MB-supplied mounts for my '95 300D were both the same part number, with a cost of around £125 total.

Talking to an MB engineer, he suggests a udeful tip of using a 13mm socket extension to check the mounts. If this will not fit between the mount and the chassis, then they are past their best. I couldn't even get the tip of my little finger in the gap on mine, even though they had only been fitted for a few weeks! If you don't want to do the job twice, probably best to buy MB parts for an extra £40.

Replaced the fuel pipes now, which has stopped the bubbles, and it seems a little smoother. Genuine MB pipes were around £45 for the set. Not too difficult to fit, especially with the undertray removed.

Next job will be to get the injectors checked at some point, try to make it sound a little less 'diesely'.

Engine/Motor Mounts

Rather Exhaustive Testing "Over Here" has proved installing ANYTHING except
the Mercedes Factory MMs results in very early MM failure.
