The other day the driver window started making a rattling\juddering noise when it reaches the top, I assumed this was the ‘stop’ mechanism, some kind of slip-clutch? Or some gizmo to cut the power when it’s reached the limit? Now today the window won’t go down at all - although it’s making all the right noises. I intend to remove the door card tomorrow and have a butchers. I just wondered if there’s anything I need to know? I’ll have a look it the VAGUE MANUAL………….er. I mean the HAYNES MANUAL now but I doubt if that’ll be any help…Thanks.

You'll need a new window regulator. The top 2-3 teeth wear and it all goes pear shaped. If you are really really handy you could build the teeth back up with weld and then grind down to form new teeth.

I had to replace the drivers door regulator twice on my 300TE , over the course of seven or eight years and 150,000 miles , then once on the 300TE-24 .

First time round I bought a new regulator from the dealers , from memory the cost was £70 or £80 , the latter two were bought secondhand from breakers for something like £25 apiece .

The Haynes manual shows how to do it , but it is fairly self evident anyway if you are handy .

if you have a welder handy cut out the tooth rack, turn it upside down and weld it back in place. I have done this a couple of times on my own cars.

thanks for that guys

yeah
i just had a look and there are about 4 or 5 damaged teeth on the quadrant just like jonnyboy said...i might just swap it with the seldom used rear door one of i can
thanks

hi ian---i thought about that but wont that just put the missing teeth at the other end?
