W124 Estate Load Area Leak

Thankfully no evidence of any leaks on my w124 estate - I have heard about the rear window leaking problems though - I waxoyled around the inside base of mine and all inside the rear wings when the car was about 4 years old and repeated it every 2 or 3 years since. As a consequence the rear windows and rear wings are rust free - maybe it is rust that causes the gaps and leaks?

Also curious how the water found its way from the load area down to the rear footwell?

Looks as there may of been a rust repair around the leaky area in the past as it had old silicone put in it to seal it.... i have dug this out and re-sealed it. Its yet to be tested in the rain but hopefully it will be OK.

I believe, once the water gets in it travels via condensation and via pipes/wires into the middle of the car. The water appears to of travelled along the wires that go from the boot area to around the central locking pump (ie vaccum lines etc). Hopefully all sorted now.

I removed the carpets and gave them a good clean and they are fully dry now and put back in so hopefully no more leaks!!!!! fingers crossed!!

There doesnt appear to be any rust anywhere around the rear of the car.

After raining all weekend and with the car parked slightly uphill Natalie has gone to work and found the boot of hers is full of water - great. Silvrsaloon - did doing what you did cure the leak(s) do you know?

update - have seen the flood and it apears the muppets who sprayed the bumber in January (and did a crapola job by the way to the point where i am taking it in tomorrow to have them explain why the paint is peeling away after 8 months) did not remove the bumper (and I assume the chrome strips were untouched too) to do the job as they managed to over-spray the 2 drain plugs so they would not drain.

now, clearly there is a problem with water ingress and I think its the wire to the aftermarket high level brake light that is letting the water in but; given they a) did a crap job and b) have kindly "sealed" the drain holes so that water cannot escape do people think I would be cheeky asking the garage to spray a rear door that has been keyed? Opinions please.

the paint is peeling on the bumper after 8 months and you are going to have them paint a door?

May be better to get them to re-do the bumper first.

Oops :o. Did expect them to rectify that..just forgot to put it in my post:o

sort of.

lots of rain over the past few weeks.

Where you could see a trickle of water getting in before is fixed - by my gutter sealant. This area is now dry where it was soaking before and making its way to the side of the 7 seat footwell. Since my fix this area is bone dry.

However there is signs of water again in the front end rear drivers-side footwells :( All drains have been checked and are clear.

i suspect i have fixed one leak, and made it much better, but i fear i have more than 1 leak..............

i will probably try and seal more of the rear window. I am now thinking that there may be a leak around by the c-pillar. its definatly coming from the rear of the car. I will remove the trim and leave it removed i think in the hope i can see the leak.

Thankfully, my 200TE appears dry, but I have the unfortunate aftermath of previous water leaks around the drivers side rear window.

The inner arch had a rather nasty rust hole in it when I bought the car, this was subsequently removed and a new panel cut and welded into place, I then sealed it into place so all is well once more here. However, the inner body area, which is totally inaccessible for proper repair, is rusty, with flaking rust, this is the area that runs under the rear side window. I have taken to dousing it in Kurust and shall be saturating the area in Waxoyl with the hope of staving off any further corrosion!
