The lacquer on the roof of my car is peeling - been like it for years and years - it had a minor repair to the roof following an argument with a car park barrier and the new lacquer is not 100%. I am thinking about getting the roof painted again - obviously it would be better to remove the bars that run the length of the roof from behind the sunroof and also the bars on either side of the roof - how are these removed? - just trying to figure out how big a job this is going to be!

You need to remove quite a bit of interior trim and this includes the edge of the roof headlining!:devil::devil:This is an extremely fiddly job to do without damaging/marking the fabric and difficult to re-instate with the correct tension so it doesn't sag! Its really a job for a good interior trim specialist IMHO. Once the trim is removed its just a couple of simple bolts. There are also a couple of O rings which are best renewed too. Unless its really necessary I would leave well alone!:dk:

And the central rubbing strips are double-sided taped on. I removed mine for respray and left them off after seeing TE's abroad that didn't have them. Thought they looked much 'cleaner' without.

Thanks - it was the ones in the centre that seem to be getting more in the way - there are four of them I think and a real pain to mask off. The entire strip just peels away does it? I guess helped with some heat from a hair dryer? And defo no holes underneath to fill? :)

How hard is it to remove the roof rails on a W202? It's one of the things I wanted to do, but am unsure of the work involved...?

Defo no holes underneath but the dbl sided tape leaves marks on the lacquer which were a pita to hide (if you're leaving them off). Heat might help, I just peeled them off but twisted them slightly in the process...but then, I was scrapping them anyway.
