Driving along the motorway (windy bridge over the River Medway) I hit a bump and my passenger side front indicator assembly jumps out of its socket and is liberally spread over the carraigeway!

Has this happened to anyone else? Does anyone have any advice over what steps to take to ensure this doesn't happen to the replacement item(s I'm going to clears all round) I have on order?

Many thanks, Adam

It's happened to quite a few W202 (old C Class) owners, not so many W124 (old E Class square lights) owners have suffered this problem, maybe a couple I think?

Your indicator housings should slide up into the hole in the bodywork and then IIRC a thumbwheel (knurled plastic nut) is tightened down onto a bracket that's part of the body work to lock the assembly down. I guess the thumbwheel had worked its way loose in your case.

BTW the W202's are even more prone to loosing their front indicators as the housings just click into place.

Some owners drill discrete holes in the back of the indicator assembly and the metal runner, then use cable ties for added security.

It happened to me on my W124. So I fitted a new one and this time drilled a little hole in the back clip and threaded a cable tie through and attached it to the bodywork so next time it wont be able to completely break free.
