W124 Gearbox Cooling Pipe

What does it do? The gearbox isn't water cooled is it?

The auto boxes run a pipe through the radiator to help cool the oil.
So yes, they are water cooled in a way:)

I never knew that, thanks

Well - perhaps in theory, but as the cooling system radiator and gearbox fluid cooler are all in one unit (the radiator), it's inevitable that one will warm/cool the other as appropriate to some degree :)

I guess part of the reason to join the radiator to the gearbox cooler may be to warm up the gearbox fluid to help bring the ATF up to operating temperature quicker?

Will
