W124 glow plug light

Hi,
I have a 300d 1992 w124 saloon does anyone have an idea why the following happens:

• switch the ignition on and NO glow plug light
• start the engine after 5/6 seconds and glow plug light comes on
• glow plug light stays on for 1 or 2 mins
• even when the engine is still hot and I restart this happens

I had the same issues with my C220d, as above, bad glow plug.

A star machine would indicate which one but I thought just as good to change the whole bunch for £120 supply and fit.
