Today I took my car out for a drive. I reset the trip odometer to zero and drove off. From that moment, I heard a "tick" sound, it appeared to come from the area near the petrol filler cap!

When I was stationary in traffic, the "tick" sound was not apparent but, when I drove off, I heard it again. When I got home I found that the trip odometer was at zero although the main odometer and speedometer functioned.

Again, I pressed the button that I zeroised the trip and went around the block to check the instruments out. The speedo and the odometer worked but the trip didn't.

Has anyone come across this experience before and how did they sort it out?

Be nice to know that this is not a unique fault.

My trip doesn't work, the odo does though. I have a wobbly speedo needle (assume it's the cable), which could be the cause of your ticking?

This has happened to me too. I cured it by holding down the button and letting it go quickly a few times. What has happened is that the gears inside have not meshed. Give it a try. ;)

I agree with Ian they do stick sometimes, can be cured as he says.
